Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Scroll Tax ("we", "us") handles personal information. It covers both the Scroll Tax mobile app for Android and iOS and this website. Scroll Tax is a screen-time wallet: you read short ideas to earn phone time, and spend that time on the apps you chose to block.

The Scroll Tax app

Account information

You sign in with Google or with Apple. From that sign-in we receive and store your email address, your display name, your profile pictureand the provider's account identifier. You can change your display name in the app at any time. We never receive your Google or Apple password.

Device identifier

Each installation generates an identifier that we store with your login session, so an account stays bound to one device. We also record whether the device is Android or iOS. This is not an advertising identifier and is not used for advertising.

How you use the app

To make the product work we store your reading progress, which ideas you have completed, the ideas and sources you save, and your screen-time wallet with the transactions that earned or spent time.

The apps you choose to block

When you build a blocking schedule you pick apps from your device. The package names of the apps you select are sent to our server and stored with that schedule, so your schedules follow you across reinstalls and devices. When the blocker stops you opening a blocked app, we store that event: the package name, the time, and the estimated seconds saved. That is what produces your Time Saved figure and your position on the leaderboard.

We only ever receive the apps you deliberately selected. We do not upload a list of everything installed on your phone.

Android permissions, and what stays on your device

On Android, blocking needs two special permissions: Usage access and an Accessibility service. Together they let the app see which app is currently in the foreground so it can show the block screen the moment a blocked app opens. This foreground-app signal is processed on your device only. It is never uploaded, never sold and never shared. A persistent notification tells you the blocker is running.

Subscriptions and payments

Subscriptions are sold and billed by Google Play and the App Store. We never see or store your card details. The store sends us the purchase token or transaction identifier, the product you bought, and the status and renewal date of the subscription, which we store to know whether your account is active.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, we send reminders and product messages related to your reading and your wallet. You can turn them off in the app, or in your device settings.

Attribution and marketing measurement

The app includes the Airbridge SDK, which measures which advert or link brought you to Scroll Tax and reports it back to the ad networks we advertise on. For that purpose Airbridge receives your device's advertising identifier (the Google Advertising ID on Android, the IDFA on iOS), the Play Store install referrer, your IP address and basic device and app details.

We also pass Airbridge a hashed form of your account identifier and email address, and the events signed in, signed up, onboarding step viewed, onboarding completed and subscribed — the last of which carries the product, price, currency and store transaction identifier. Airbridge does not receive what you read, the apps you block, or your wallet balance.

On Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in Settings › Google › Ads; on iOS the IDFA is only available if you allow tracking. Airbridge does not collect your location.

What we do not do

• We do not show ads inside the app.
• We do not sell or rent your personal information.
• Apart from Airbridge, described above, there are no other third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs in the app.
• We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, messages, calendar, microphone or camera.

Who else sees your data

App data is stored on our own servers in the European Union. We share it only with the providers needed to run the service — our hosting provider, Google Play or Apple for sign-in and billing, and Airbridge together with the ad networks it reports to, as described above — and only for those purposes. We may also disclose data where the law requires it.

Security and retention

Data travels over HTTPS. Login tokens are stored hashed on our side and in the operating system's secure storage on your device. We keep your account data for as long as your account exists.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account and everything listed above from Profile › Delete account in the app, or by emailing us. Full instructions, and the list of what is erased and what is retained, are on our account deletion page.

This website

When you submit the subscribe form, we collect the email address you provide, plus basic technical metadata sent automatically by your browser, such as your user agent, to help prevent spam and abuse. We use it to notify you when the app launches and to send occasional product updates.

Waitlist emails are stored in our own PostgreSQL database. We also use Brevo, an email service provider, to manage our contact list and deliver emails. Your email is shared with Brevo solely for these purposes and is subject to Brevo's own privacy practices. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in our emails.

This website uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic. It is not used in the app.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to receive a copy of it, or to object to its processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected].

Children

Scroll Tax is intended for adults. Neither the app nor this site is directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above.
